Vienna

The 1.6 million metropolis Vienna is a melting-pot of cultures and art from various styles and epochs. In this city situated on the River Danube, you can find the Ruprecht’s Church dating from the Middle Ages as well as the Gothic St. Stephan’s Cathedral, but also the Baroque Schönbrunn Palace and Belvedere or the Art Nouveau Secession building. As the only EU capital with a UNO Headquarters, Vienna is the focal point for international contacts and one of the most important international venues for meetings between top representatives of international politics.
In Vienna, it’s possible to follow the historical and musical trails of Mozart, Beethoven and Strauß but also to enjoy modern music in the numerous jazz clubs or simply to go clubbing.

The Vienna Board of Education (Stadtschulrat für Wien)

The Vienna Board of Education (Stadtschulrat für Wien) is responsible for the running of more than 700 schools from primary to upper secondary schooling in the Viennese metropolis.
Nomen est omen: the European Office is a department within the Viennese Board of Education responsible for international, but in particular, for European contacts and projects. The European Office started with the first large EU project: CERNET (Central European Regional Network for Education - www.cernet.at) with the neighbouring regions of Györ-Moson-Sopron (HU), Bratislava (SK) and Brno (CZ) in 1976 and has since then developed contacts throughout Europe. These contacts have been the basis for this new EU project – EdGATE, as well as the CERNET follow-on project EdQ (Education Quality www.edq.eu.com).
